Alton Water Reservoir Circuit

Alton Water is Suffolk's largest reservoir, sitting just south of Ipswich in gently rolling farmland. The full perimeter path runs 13 km around the water's edge through a mix of mature woodland, open grassland and wetland margins, staying flat and well surfaced throughout. The reservoir is always in view, giving the walk a steady, calming rhythm, while the surrounding tree cover and reed beds provide enough variety to prevent monotony over the longer distance. Shorter loops are possible using the paths that cut across the middle sections.

The reservoir edges provide shallow wading access in several places, suiting dogs who prefer to paddle rather than plunge into deep water.
