Bracklinn Falls

Bracklinn Falls drops through a steep wooded gorge near Callander in the Trossachs, and this 4 km circuit from the town is one of the most rewarding short walks in the area. The path climbs through native woodland of oak, birch and alder, following the Keltie Water as it tumbles over smooth, water-worn rock before the falls themselves plunge through a narrow cleft in the landscape. A dramatic bridge spans the gorge at the main viewpoint, with the volume of water creating a constant roar and filling the air with fine spray. The 215 m of climbing is steady and the paths are well maintained throughout, with the woodland canopy filtering the light into a cool, green atmosphere that's particularly atmospheric on overcast days.

This is a dog friendly walk that delivers genuine drama in a short, accessible package. The path is well maintained and the gradient steady rather than steep, making it manageable for dogs of most ages and abilities. The burn offers frequent paddling opportunities on the ascent, and the spray from the falls provides natural cooling on warmer days. Off-lead potential is moderate through the woodland, though the narrow path near the gorge edge requires closer control and a lead is sensible where the drops are serious. Livestock are largely absent from this route. Callander village is immediately adjacent to the car park, with excellent dog-welcoming cafes and pubs for post-walk refreshment.
