Cardinham Woods

Cardinham Woods sits in a sheltered valley near Bodmin, a Forestry England site where mature plantation and broadleaf woodland surround the River Cardinham as it runs through the valley bottom. This 7.2 km circuit follows riverside trails beneath tall conifers, crossing footbridges and winding through woodland that provides shelter and shade year-round. The 184 m of climbing is spread across gentle undulations, and the paths are well maintained and easy to follow throughout. The valley setting protects the walk from the worst of the Cornish weather, making this a reliable option when coastal routes are too exposed.

The riverside provides constant water access for drinking and paddling, and the woodland floor carries rich scent from pine needle, damp earth and leaf litter that changes with the seasons.
