Dane Valley Way (Middlewich Section)

This section of the Dane Valley Way follows the River Dane through quiet Cheshire countryside south of Middlewich, tracing the river's gentle bends through water meadows, past hedgerow-lined fields and through patches of riverside woodland. The 8 km circuit stays close to the river for much of the route before looping through surrounding farmland on the return. The 67 m of climbing is negligible, and the terrain is flat and easy on a mix of riverside paths and field-edge tracks. The landscape is pastoral and unhurried, with the river providing a constant thread of interest through the kind of green, agricultural countryside that Cheshire does particularly well.

Dogs get a rewarding dog friendly walk here thanks to the constant river access and the rich meadow scent that characterises lowland river valleys. The Dane is shallow and accessible along much of this stretch, providing drinking water and wading opportunities.
