Hareshaw Linn

Hareshaw Linn is reached through a beautifully atmospheric woodland valley walk near Bellingham in Northumberland, where a series of ornamental bridges cross and recross the burn beneath a canopy of mixed deciduous and conifer trees. The 4.8 km out-and-back route follows Hareshaw Burn upstream through moss-covered boulders and impressively tall trees, with the path never straying far from the water. The waterfall itself is substantial and dramatic, crashing over dark stone into a deep pool. The damp woodland atmosphere and moss-covered rocks create an almost temperate rainforest feel, particularly on misty days.

This dog friendly walk is a delight for water-loving dogs. Hareshaw Burn provides access points throughout, with deeper pools near the falls that many dogs find irresistible. Off-lead potential is moderate in the lower woodland sections, though leads are needed on the narrower path approaching the waterfall where the ground drops steeply. Livestock risk is low within the wooded valley, making the walk relatively relaxed. The bridges add character and fun for dogs who enjoy crossing water, and the sheltered canopy makes this a good wet-weather option. The waterfall is most impressive in winter and spring when water levels are high, but the woodland is beautiful in every season.
