Stratford Greenway

The Stratford Greenway follows 8km of disused railway line from Stratford-upon-Avon to Long Marston, a completely traffic-free route through open Warwickshire countryside. The surfaced path runs past the racecourse, over the River Avon and River Stour on old railway bridges, and through flat farmland south of town. The going is entirely level with just 20 metres of elevation change, and the consistent surface makes this one of the most accessible long walks in the county. The converted railway carriage café at Milcote makes a natural midpoint stop, and the river crossings provide the route's main landmarks.

This is a straightforward dog friendly walk that suits dogs of all ages on easy, flat ground. Off-lead potential is moderate on the wider sections where visibility is good, though the shared-use path carries cyclists and runners, so leads are sensible in busier stretches. The rivers at Milcote provide water access, and the hedgerow-lined sections carry seasonal scent interest. Livestock may graze adjacent fields but the greenway itself is enclosed. The surfaced path is reliable in all weather, making this an excellent wet-day option. Parking and facilities are available at the Stratford end, and the railway café at Milcote welcomes dogs. The linear nature means you can turn back at any point or arrange transport from Long Marston.
