Cemaes Bay

Cemaes Bay is a sheltered village beach on the north coast of Anglesey, framed by a small harbour and low headlands that create calm conditions even when the Irish Sea beyond is rough. The beach has a classic Welsh coastal village character — white-painted cottages, a harbour wall, and sand that transitions to rock pools at the bay's edges. The sheltered aspect makes it one of the more reliable swimming beaches on the island, and the village above provides a pleasant context for the visit. The bay is compact enough to feel intimate but large enough for a proper walk at lower tide states.

Dogs may be restricted from parts of the beach during summer months from 1 May to 30 September — check local signage before visiting. Outside restrictions, this is a charming dog friendly beach for dogs who enjoy slower-paced exploration rather than long-distance running. The rock pools at low tide provide rich investigation with seaweed, crabs and tidal creatures, and the harbour area carries the scent of rope, salt and fishing gear. The sheltered water is calm enough for nervous paddlers, and the sand provides comfortable ground for dogs of all ages. The village has parking and basic facilities. A beach with genuine character that rewards pottering and investigating over sprinting.
