Willsbridge Mill And Dramway Path Circular

The Willsbridge Mill and Dramway Path circular follows a 6.1 km route through the wooded valley of Siston Brook on the eastern edge of Bristol, linking the restored 18th-century mill with the historic Dramway — a former horse-drawn tramway that once carried coal from the Kingswood mines to the River Avon. The route passes through enclosed woodland along the brook, follows the level Dramway path through a cutting lined with mature trees, and returns across open meadow. The 135 metres of climbing is gentle and spread evenly, with the Dramway sections providing flat, easy walking on compacted surfaces. Old stonework, industrial archaeology and flowing water give the walk a layered character that rewards attention.

This dog friendly walk offers moderate off-lead potential, though leads are wise where livestock may be present in the meadow sections. The woodland along Siston Brook provides the richest ground for dogs — damp leaf litter, waterside scent, fallen timber and the constant sound of flowing water create an engaging environment. The brook itself offers drinking and paddling access at several points where the banks are gentle. Cyclists and walkers share the Dramway path, so awareness of approaching bikes is sensible on those sections. The well-surfaced paths suit dogs of all ages, and the sheltered valley provides protection in breezy or wet weather.
