Crosby Beach

Crosby Beach is one of Merseyside's most recognisable stretches of coastline, known worldwide for Antony Gormley's Another Place — 100 cast-iron figures standing in the sand and surf, partially submerged at high tide and fully revealed as the water retreats. The beach offers huge skies, wide tidal flats and a shoreline that opens massively at low tide, with the Liverpool skyline visible to the south and the wind turbines of Burbo Bank standing offshore. The promenade runs the full length, providing a reliable walking surface when the tide is in, and the sand below is firm and flat when exposed.

Dogs are welcome year-round on this dog friendly beach, and the scale means finding space is easy even on popular days. The firm sand at low tide provides excellent off-lead running, and the tidal flats create shallow pools and channels that dogs enjoy investigating. The Gormley figures add unusual visual landmarks to the walk — dogs investigate them with characteristic curiosity. The tide shifts quickly across these flat sands, so awareness of incoming water is essential. The promenade extends the walking options and provides a good on-lead alternative. Toilets and cafes are available nearby. An exposed beach where the wind is a constant companion, but the combination of art, space and big Mersey skies makes every visit memorable.
