Hest Bank Shore

Hest Bank Shore sits on the quieter eastern edge of Morecambe Bay in Lancashire, offering peaceful walking along a natural coastline with wide views across the bay to the Lake District fells. From the Shore Road car park, you can follow the bay edge on paths that feel far removed from resort seafronts — this is a landscape of salt marsh, sand, mud and wading birds rather than promenades and arcades. The views at sunset across the bay are among the finest in northwest England, and the changing light on the water and distant mountains gives every visit a different character.

Dogs are welcome year-round on this dog friendly beach, and the quiet, natural setting makes it one of the most relaxed coastal outings in Lancashire. The sand and mud foreshore provides rich scent interest from estuary life — salt, shellfish, wading bird activity and tidal vegetation. However, Morecambe Bay tides advance extremely rapidly across the flat sands and are genuinely dangerous — never walk out onto the sands without an official guide, and always stay close to the shore edge. The bay is best enjoyed on a falling tide when the water is retreating and the sands are safely exposed. Parking is conveniently available at Shore Road. A beautiful, contemplative coastal walk that demands respect for the tides.
