Daymer Bay

Daymer Bay sits on the Camel Estuary near Rock in north Cornwall, a south-facing inlet where sheltered water and tidal influence create wide sweeps of firm sand at low water. The beach is backed by low dunes with the South West Coast Path running along the cliff above, and at low tide the sand connects to long flat stretches all the way toward Rock. The estuary setting gives Daymer a different character to Cornwall's open Atlantic beaches — the water is calmer, the air softer, and the brackish edge of tidal flats adds a subtle difference to the scent. St Enodoc Church, where John Betjeman is buried, sits in the dunes above.

Dogs are welcome year-round with no Cornwall Council PSPO restrictions on this dog friendly beach, making Daymer one of the most reliably accessible beaches in north Cornwall. The firm sand is easy underfoot and ideal for older dogs or those who find loose sand tiring, and the calm estuary water provides excellent swimming that most dogs take to naturally. The extensive low-tide sand gives generous space for running and exploration, though the beach narrows significantly at high tide, so timing visits around lower water is rewarding. The estuary scent — salty but softer than open coast, with exposed weed and tidal flat notes — carries distinctively. Rock village has several dog-friendly cafes and pubs within easy reach.
