Poppit Sands sits at the mouth of the River Teifi where it meets the Pembrokeshire coast, a wide expanse of sand backed by rolling dunes and the estuary marshland behind. The beach has a calmer, more sheltered character than many of Pembrokeshire's exposed Atlantic bays, and at low tide the estuary sands open up into a generous walking surface with views across to Cardigan and the Ceredigion hills beyond. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path starts (or ends) here, adding the option of extending a beach visit into a clifftop walk.
This dog friendly beach has seasonal restrictions on parts of the beach from May to September — check local PSPO signage for current details. The combination of estuary and open coast gives dogs an unusually varied environment, with firm beach sand for running, muddy estuary edges rich with scent, and dune trails for more sheltered exploration.
