Coed y Brenin Forest Trail Loop

Coed y Brenin Forest Park offers some of the best woodland walking in North Wales, and this 7.5 km loop from the visitor centre follows well-marked trails through deep conifer and mixed forest with river crossings and sections where the trees close in overhead to create a genuine sense of enclosure. The 319 m of climbing is more substantial than the easy grading might suggest, with the trails undulating across the forested hillside and occasional steeper sections adding variety. The forest is managed by Forestry Wales and the paths are well maintained, holding up in wet weather and offering a reliable option when the mountain routes are too exposed. Once away from the visitor centre, the forest feels quiet and immersive.

This is a dog friendly walk with excellent off-lead potential through the forest where livestock are largely absent. The woodland floor carries rich scent year-round, from the sharp resin of fresh-cut timber to the deep damp earth beneath mature canopy, and the river sections provide water access and a change of character. The dense tree cover makes this an ideal choice on wet or windy days when exposed walks are unappealing, and the shade is equally welcome in summer. Dogs who enjoy working through woodland terrain with varied undergrowth and natural obstacles will find this deeply engaging. The trails are well defined and easy to follow, and the visitor centre provides parking and basic facilities at the start.
