Falmouth Town Beach

Falmouth Town Beach, also known as Castle Beach, sits at the foot of Pendennis Castle on the southern tip of the Falmouth headland. The beach is a compact stretch of sand and shingle in a dramatic position, with the castle ramparts above and wide views across the mouth of the Fal estuary to the Roseland Peninsula. It is less visited than Gyllyngvase and has a rougher, more windswept character, attracting a mix of locals, kayakers and those who prefer their beaches less manicured.

Dogs are welcome at Falmouth Town Beach year-round without seasonal restrictions, giving it a consistent advantage over some of Falmouth's other beaches. The sheltered position below the castle walls provides good protection from westerly winds, and the rocky margins offer excellent foraging ground for dogs. The beach connects at low tide to small additional coves along the base of the headland. The castle grounds above are managed by English Heritage and dogs on leads are welcome to walk the ramparts and surrounding lawns, which adds a significant bonus for those wanting more than beach time. The Courtyard Cafe at the castle welcomes dogs in its outdoor areas.
