Porthbean Beach

Porthbean Beach is a small, sheltered cove tucked along the south Cornish coast near Porthpean, a short distance from St Austell. The beach is sandy with some pebble and rock scatter at its edges, framed by low grassy headlands and accessible via a short footpath from the car park above. It is a quiet, unhurried spot that sees far fewer visitors than the larger beaches in the area, and the calm, south-facing aspect makes it a pleasant place to spend time even when wind is a factor elsewhere on the coast.

Dogs are welcome at this dog friendly beach year-round with no Cornwall Council PSPO restrictions in place, making it a reliable choice at any time of year. The compact, sheltered character of the cove makes it easy to keep an eye on your dog while still giving them the run of the beach. Rock pools emerge at low tide and offer good sniffing terrain, while the water here is generally calm enough for confident sea paddlers. There are no facilities on site, which helps keep visitor numbers manageable. The beach is best visited around mid to low tide when there is the most sand available.
