Trebarwith Strand

Cornwall

Dog Friendly Rating: 8/10 A dramatic north Cornish beach that transforms into an enormous low-tide expanse, with year-round dog access and no crowds outside peak season.

Trebarwith Strand is a spectacular north Cornish beach on the Atlantic coast south of Tintagel, reached via a narrow valley that opens dramatically onto the sea. At low tide the beach is an enormous expanse of flat, firm sand, with dramatic slate cliff formations rising on both sides and a series of surf breaks running along the bay. The surrounding landscape is rugged north Cornish slate country, and the valley approach through gorse and heather adds to the sense of arrival. The Port William Inn sits at the top of the beach in a commanding position above the sea.

Dogs are welcome at Trebarwith Strand year-round with no PSPO restrictions, and this is a genuinely outstanding dog friendly beach that combines dramatic scenery with serious beach space. The enormous low-tide expanse gives dogs the kind of run that only a handful of Cornish beaches can offer. The surf provides excellent swimming conditions for confident dogs, and the rock pools and channels at the headland edges reward exploration. The Port William Inn is reliably dog-friendly. The approach valley is itself enjoyable walking country. The critical caveat is tidal: the beach disappears almost entirely at high tide, so timing around low water is essential for the full experience.

Trebarwith Strand is an excellent choice for dogs, earning a solid 8/10 on our dog-friendly rating. There are no PSPO restrictions in place, so dogs can roam freely, and at low tide the vast expanse of firm sand gives them the kind of space to run that very few Cornish beaches can match. The Port William Inn at the top of the beach is reliably dog-friendly too, making it a great spot to round off a visit.

Yes, dogs are welcome at Trebarwith Strand throughout the year with no seasonal restrictions. This makes it a particularly good option in the quieter months, when you can enjoy the dramatic scenery and open beach without the summer crowds.

The most important thing to be aware of is the tide , the beach almost completely disappears at high tide, so timing your visit around low water is essential to get the full experience. The car park at the top of the valley (PL34 0HB) is pay and display, and there's a moderate walk down to the beach from there, so bear that in mind if you have an older or less mobile dog. The approach through the valley is pleasant walking in its own right, and the rock pools and surf channels at the headland edges are well worth exploring once you're down on the sand.
