Soar Mill Cove

Soar Mill Cove is one of the more remote beaches accessible from Salcombe, reachable only on foot via the South West Coast Path or via the track from Soar Mill Cove Hotel. The cove is backed by high cliffs and open heathland, with soft sand and no buildings in sight from the beach itself, giving it a wild feel despite being within a few miles of one of Devon's most popular sailing towns. The South West Coast Path connects it to Bolt Head to the east and Bolberry Down to the west, making it a natural stopping point on a longer coastal walk rather than a destination that draws its own car-based crowds. The hotel track provides the most direct access on foot from nearby parking.

Dogs are welcome at Soar Mill Cove year round with no restrictions, and the combination of accessible sand, calm water and genuine remoteness makes it a useful destination for dog owners who prefer quieter beaches. The cove can become cut off at high tide, so checking tide times before setting out is important: plan to arrive around low water when the beach is at its largest and the access from the coast path is most straightforward. There are no facilities at the beach itself, so bring everything needed for the day.
