Swanage North Beach

Swanage North Beach is the quieter, less developed end of Swanage Bay, a gently sloping stretch of clean golden sand backed by low cliffs and the Purbeck Hills beyond. The bay as a whole is sheltered from prevailing south-westerly winds, and the calm, clear water has earned Blue Flag status year after year. North Beach sits away from the main resort area, used more by locals than tourists, and has a relaxed, unhurried character compared to the busier central section near the pier. Views across Christchurch Bay to the Isle of Wight are excellent, and the chalk headlands framing the bay add drama to the setting.

Dogs are welcome year-round on the North Beach section, making it the go-to option for dog owners when the central beach imposes its seasonal ban from May to September. The sandy, gently sloping terrain suits dogs of all ages and mobility levels, and the calm water is safe for paddling. Monkey Beach at the southern end of the bay, near Swanage Pier, also welcomes dogs year-round for those wanting an alternative. North Beach car park sits just off De Moulham Road with toilets and pay and display parking. The wider Swanage resort offers a full range of cafes, pubs, shops and restaurants, many of which welcome dogs.
