Kingsgate Bay

Kingsgate Bay is a beautiful sandy beach enclosed by high white chalk cliffs, featuring some of the best sea caves on the Kent coast and a dramatic natural arch accessible at low tide. Kingsgate Castle, built in the 1760s for Lord Holland, overlooks the southern end of the bay, and the Captain Digby pub sits at the northern end with views across the beach. The bay is quieter than neighbouring Joss Bay and Botany Bay, partly because parking is more limited, and it has a genuinely secluded feel despite being just a short walk from busier beaches.

Dogs are welcome at Kingsgate Bay year-round with no restrictions, making it one of the best options for dog owners on the Thanet coast during summer when many other beaches are closed to dogs. The caves and chalk formations provide interesting territory to explore, and the sheltered setting keeps conditions comfortable. The beach is tidal, so checking times is important as the sand reduces significantly at high water. Access is via a long staircase from the clifftop, which is not suitable for those requiring flat access. The Captain Digby pub has a children's play area and serves food, though dogs are not permitted inside.
