Pakefield Beach

Pakefield Beach is a dog friendly sand and shingle beach at the southern edge of Lowestoft, immediately south of the CEFAS building, which marks the boundary of the Lowestoft seasonal dog ban. The beach is backed by low, eroding cliffs with a clifftop walk running above, and the beach itself is divided by wooden groynes that trap sand to form a series of sandy bays. Pakefield is one of the most popular beaches in the area with local dog owners precisely because it carries no seasonal restrictions: while the main Lowestoft beaches ban dogs from May to September, Pakefield is accessible year-round. The village of Pakefield, with its cliff-top church and traditional character, sits directly above the beach. It is possible to walk north along the beach at low tide to connect with Lowestoft South Beach, and south toward Kessingland.

Dogs are welcome at Pakefield throughout the year with no restrictions. The wide sandy bays between the groynes give dogs good room to run, and the cliff-top path above offers an alternative walking route with sea views. A cliff-top coffee shack, Deans Beans, is a local favourite for walkers and dog owners. There are several dog-friendly pubs on the clifftop. Access to the beach is via steps and slopes from the clifftop car park on Pakefield Street. Parking is available at the clifftop and on surrounding streets.
