Mundesley Beach

Norfolk

Dog Friendly Rating: 6/10 A traditional, award-winning sandy beach with seasonal dog restrictions on the promenade section from 1 May to 30 September, but accessible dog friendly sections either side of the restriction all year.

Mundesley Beach is a long, sandy award-winning beach in the traditional Norfolk seaside village of Mundesley, considered by many visitors to be one of the finest beaches on the Norfolk coast. The beach is backed by a promenade with brightly painted beach huts and low cliffs, and the village itself is compact and well served with a pub, cafes, a village shop and public toilets. The Beach Hut Cafe at the top of the beach ramp is dog friendly and provides water bowls for visiting dogs. The Ship Inn a short walk along Beach Road also welcomes dogs into the bar. Mundesley is a Blue Flag beach and has a genuine traditional seaside resort character without the scale or crowds of Cromer.

A seasonal dog restriction applies at Mundesley under the North Norfolk PSPO from 1 May to 30 September, covering the main beach and promenade section. However, the restriction is more limited than at Cromer: the sandy beach outside the promenade section remains accessible to dogs, reached via the walkways leading down from the cliffs at either end. Outside the restricted season, the whole beach is open to dogs and this dog friendly beach is excellent for long coastal walks north toward Overstrand or south toward Bacton and Walcott at low tide. Pay-and-display parking is available in the clifftop car park with public toilets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mundesley Beach is dog friendly, though it does have seasonal restrictions to be aware of. The Beach Hut Cafe at the top of the beach ramp is welcoming to dogs and puts out water bowls, while The Ship Inn on Beach Road also allows dogs into the bar — so the village itself caters well for four-legged visitors.

Dogs are welcome at Mundesley year round, but a seasonal restriction under the North Norfolk PSPO applies to the main beach and promenade section from 1 May to 30 September. Importantly, the restriction is more limited than at some nearby beaches — the sandy beach beyond the promenade section remains accessible to dogs via walkways down from the cliffs at either end, so you're not completely excluded even in summer.

Parking is in the clifftop pay-and-display car park, with a short walk down a ramp or steps to the beach, and public toilets are available on site. Outside the restricted season (October to April), the whole beach opens up and makes a great base for longer coastal walks north toward Overstrand or south toward Bacton and Walcott at low tide. It's worth timing your visit around low tide if you're planning a longer walk along the shore.
