Overstrand Beach is a wide, sandy beach just east of Cromer, offering the same quality of North Norfolk sand in a noticeably quieter setting. The beach is accessed via a long, gradual concrete slope, also used to launch the local fishing boats, which doubles as a gentle ramp walkable in all weather. At low tide the sands are wide and firm, ideal for long walks, and the beach connects to Cromer to the west and the clifftop path to Trimingham to the east via the Norfolk Coast Path. The village of Overstrand is small and unspoiled, with a dog friendly clifftop cafe, a pub and a village shop a short walk from the beach. A clifftop car park with public toilets sits above the beach.
A seasonal dog restriction applies at Overstrand under the North Norfolk PSPO from 1 May to 30 September, covering the central beach area near the promenade. The promenade itself requires dogs to be on leads during this period. However, the beach to either side of the restricted central section is accessible to dogs via the slopes at each end. When the tide is in, the beach at Overstrand almost completely disappears against the sea wall, so checking tide times is essential for any visit. Outside the restricted season this is a superb dog friendly beach: quiet, wide and connected to excellent clifftop walking.
