Seilebost Beach

Outer Hebrides

Dog Friendly Rating: 10/10 The southern arc of Luskentyre Bay, once voted one of the world's top 10 beaches, with no parking (and therefore very few visitors), stunning views north across turquoise water and unrestricted dog access.

Seilebost Beach (Traigh Sheileboist) sits on the south side of Luskentyre Bay, separated from the main Luskentyre sands by a narrow tidal channel that disappears at low water, allowing the two vast beaches to merge into a single immense expanse. Once voted one of the top 10 beaches in the world, Seilebost offers arguably the finest views of the bay system: the perspective from the southern shore looking north across the turquoise shallows to the mountains of Harris is simply stunning. Unlike Luskentyre, there is no car park at Seilebost and the beach must be reached on foot, which keeps visitor numbers even lower.

There are no dog restrictions at Seilebost. Dogs can run freely year-round on this extraordinary beach. Note that quicksand has been reported in parts of the tidal wet sand at low water; keep to the firmer upper sand when the tide is out. The complete absence of facilities and parking means visits require more planning, but reward those who make the effort.
