Beinn a’Chroin from Glen Falloch

Beinn a'Chroin gets a dog friendly rating of 5.5 out of 10 — it's a route that welcomes dogs, but only the right ones. This is a serious Munro ascent with steep terrain and a scrambling section near the summit crags, so it's best suited to fit, experienced dogs and their equally experienced owners.

There's plenty of scope for off-lead walking once you're up on the open hillside above the farm, and dogs can enjoy good freedom across much of the upper mountain. That said, leads are essential near Derrydaroch Farm at the start of the route, where livestock graze, and you'll want close control during the scrambling section near the summit.

This is a demanding day out — the route climbs to 941 metres and includes a short scramble that requires the use of hands, so your dog needs to be sure-footed and in good condition. There are no facilities anywhere on the route, so come fully prepared with water and supplies for both of you. Parking is limited to a small roadside layby opposite Derrydaroch Farm on the A82, with space for around 6 cars, and the nearest services are back in Crianlarich.
