Loch Lubnaig Circular Walk
Stirling
Loch Lubnaig is a dog friendly lochside walk that follows the National Cycle Route 7 through beautiful woodland alongside one of the Trossachs' most scenic lochs. The route runs between the southern shore of Loch Lubnaig and the village of Strathyre, offering stunning views across the water to the surrounding hills including the slopes of Ben Ledi.
Dogs will love this walk, with several access points to the loch shore for swimming and splashing. The mostly flat, well surfaced path is suitable for dogs of all fitness levels, and the woodland sections provide shade on warm days. Off-lead opportunities are good along the quieter stretches of the trail, though leads are advisable near the road crossings and car park areas. Parking is available at the south end of Loch Lubnaig, though the popular car park fills quickly in summer. There are no facilities directly on the route, but the Broch Cafe at Strathyre Forest Cabins is nearby.

Frequently Asked Questions
Loch Lubnaig is a great choice for dogs, earning a solid 8.5/10 on our dog-friendly rating. The mostly flat, well-surfaced path suits dogs of all fitness levels, the woodland sections offer shade on warmer days, and there are several spots where dogs can access the loch for a swim.
There are good off-lead opportunities along the quieter stretches of the trail, so dogs with a reliable recall can enjoy a good run. That said, it's worth keeping leads on near road crossings and around the car park areas for safety.
The car park at the south end of Loch Lubnaig off the A84 is pay and display with around 30 spaces — it fills up quickly in summer, so an early start is a good idea. There are no toilets or facilities directly on the lochside path, but the Broch Cafe at Strathyre Forest Cabins is nearby if you need a post-walk refreshment stop.
