Campsie Fells: Earl’s Seat from Crow Road
Glasgow
The Earl's Seat circuit from Crow Road is a dog friendly hill walk that reaches the highest point of the Campsie Fells at 578m. The route climbs from the popular Crow Road car park across open moorland to the trig point on the plateau, with views stretching from Glasgow to the Highlands on a clear day.
Dogs can enjoy plenty of freedom on the open hillside, though the terrain is boggy in places and the plateau can be featureless in mist. There is no livestock on the upper slopes but sheep may be present lower down. The car park on the B822 is small and sits on a sharp bend, so take care when pulling in. There are no facilities at the start, so bring water and snacks for both you and your dog. The route is exposed and not recommended in poor visibility without navigation skills.

Frequently Asked Questions
Earl's Seat from Crow Road is a decent option for dogs, earning a rating of 6.5 out of 10 on our scale. The open moorland gives dogs plenty of space to roam, though the boggy terrain, exposed plateau, and the possibility of sheep on the lower slopes mean it suits more experienced hill-walking dogs and owners best.
Dogs can enjoy good freedom on the upper hillside, where there is no livestock on the open moorland and plateau. On the lower slopes, sheep may be present, so it's worth keeping your dog on a lead in those sections until you're clear of any grazing animals.
There are no facilities at the car park or anywhere along the route, so bring plenty of water and snacks for both you and your dog before you set off. The car park itself is small and sits on a sharp bend of the B822, so take care when arriving. The plateau can be featureless in mist and the route is exposed, so this walk is best saved for clear days or for those confident with navigation.
