Threave Estate Circular Walk
Glasgow
The Threave Estate circular is a dog friendly walk through the National Trust for Scotland's Threave grounds near Castle Douglas. The short route follows waymarked paths through farmland and along the River Dee, with views across to the medieval Threave Castle on its island and access to bird hides overlooking the wetland reserve.
Dogs are welcome on the estate but must be kept on leads, particularly around the wetland areas where ground nesting birds and wildfowl are present. The terrain is flat and easy going on well maintained paths and tracks, though it can be muddy in places. The car park has toilets and a tearoom, making this a comfortable outing for a shorter walk. The estate is well signed from the A75 roundabout just west of Castle Douglas.
