Morpeth Riverside and Carlisle Park Walk

Yes, this is a well-suited walk for dogs and earns a solid 8/10 on our dog-friendly rating. The circular route follows the River Wansbeck through Carlisle Park and into Bluebell Wood, with no livestock or ground-nesting bird restrictions along the way. The ground is easy underfoot throughout, and the river offers plenty of shallow spots for a paddle.

There's good off-lead opportunity on the wide grassy riverside lawns and inside Bluebell Wood. You'll need to pop the lead back on through the formal William Turner Garden, around the playgrounds, and when crossing the road bridges — all of which are straightforward to spot as you go round.

It's an easy town circular, so expect some pedestrian traffic, road crossings, and a playground to navigate around — nothing tricky, just worth being prepared for. Toilets and a seasonal kiosk are available inside Carlisle Park, and the full range of Morpeth town centre cafes and pubs is only a couple of minutes away if you fancy a post-walk break. Parking is at Castle Bank car park adjacent to Carlisle Park, which operates on a disc system and has around 50 spaces.
