Goathland Moor and Mallyan Spout Walk

Goathland is a dog friendly moorland village best known as television's Aidensfield, and this circuit pairs a traditional moor-top crossing with a scramble down to Mallyan Spout, a seventy-foot slender waterfall in the wooded gorge of West Beck. The route leaves the village green past the grazing sheep, climbs onto Goathland Moor with big heather views, then drops through bracken and oak to the falls.

Dogs are the point of a walk like this: the open moor section is excellent off lead if your recall holds, but you will need leads through the village and around the sheep which graze the common year round. The scramble to Mallyan Spout involves slippery boulders right at the base of the falls and is fine for sure-footed dogs but not for small or elderly ones. The rest is firm moorland path and grassy track. There are two pay and display car parks in Goathland, toilets in the larger one, and the Mallyan Spout Hotel and Goathland Hotel both welcome dogs.
