The route offers plenty of river access along the valley floor and a mix of wide open tracks and field paths, so there's lots to keep dogs happy along the way.

Dogs can enjoy off-lead time on the Manifold Way section along the valley floor, which follows the old railway track. However, leads are required when passing through farmland where sheep and cattle graze, so it's worth keeping one to hand throughout the walk.

The 8 km loop includes a steeper climb up to Thor's Cave through fields, as well as some squeeze stiles that smaller dogs may need lifting over, so it's worth bearing that in mind if you have a tiny or less agile companion. Parking is roadside at Wetton Mill and can fill up quickly, so arriving early is a good idea — there's also a small paid car park in Wetton village as a backup. The Wetton Mill tea room is right at the start with outdoor seating and toilets, and there's a pub in Wetton village too, making it easy to plan a comfortable day out.
