Hartlebury Common Nature Reserve Walk

Worcestershire

Dog Friendly Rating: 9/10 Worcestershire's largest heathland, a sandy dog paradise just outside Stourport with off lead fun and year round access.

Hartlebury Common is the biggest lowland heath in Worcestershire, a designated SSSI of sand, gorse and silver birch just east of Stourport on Severn. It is genuinely dog friendly, with gated car parks that allow dogs to come straight off the lead once inside.

A waymarked 1.5 km Heather Trail gives a quick introduction, but most owners take in a looser 4 km tour around the perimeter using the sandy tracks and narrower paths through the heather. The sandy underfoot is a favourite for dogs that love to dig, and there is no livestock on the common itself. Free parking is at Wilden Top and a handful of smaller lay-bys on the A4025.

Yes, and it's brilliantly set up for it. The car parks at Hartlebury Common are gated, meaning you can let your dog off the lead as soon as you're inside, before you've even hit the trails. With no livestock on the common and plenty of sandy open ground to roam, it's a great spot for dogs who love a proper free run.

There are no facilities on site, so it's worth packing water and any snacks you need before you arrive. Free parking is available at Wilden Top and in smaller lay-bys off the A4025, and if you want to refuel afterwards, pubs and cafes are a short drive away in Stourport-on-Severn or Hartlebury village. The waymarked Heather Trail is 1.5 km if you want a shorter outing, but most people enjoy a longer 4 km loop around the perimeter on the sandy tracks.
