Upton Country Park and River Severn Walk

This 8.5 km loop from Upton upon Severn is a mixed experience for dog owners, which is reflected in its 3 out of 5 rating. The riverside stretches along the Severn Way are genuinely lovely for dogs, with open views across to the Malverns and plenty of shade, but the route also takes in farmland paths, a housing estate section and some road walking, which makes it less ideal overall.

Dogs can enjoy off-lead freedom on the riverbank sections of the walk, which is where the route really comes into its stride. However, leads are required through farmland areas where livestock graze and on any road sections, so you'll be clipping on and off throughout the full loop.

The route includes a few rickety stiles on the farmland paths, so it's worth bearing that in mind if you have a larger dog or one that struggles with stiles. On the plus side, the start point at the Hanley Road pay and display car park puts you right next to cafes and toilets, making it easy to sort refreshments before or after the walk.
