Burghley House and the River Welland Walk

Lincolnshire

Dog Friendly Rating: 8/10 An easy circuit around the Capability Brown parkland of Burghley House, looping back into Stamford along the River Welland.

Dog friendly and handsomely scenic, this easy circular starts in the Burghley parkland, moves through Capability Brown's rolling lakes and avenues, and returns to Stamford along the lovely River Welland with its water meadows and stone bridges. The Town Meadows on the Stamford side are a particular highlight, offering a soft finish with the golden town skyline overhead.

Dogs must be kept on lead throughout the Burghley Parkland because of resident deer and other livestock, and also through the pedestrian sections of Stamford. Paths are flat, well-drained parkland tracks and riverside trail, suitable year round. Parking is free in the main Burghley House car park, though it may close ahead of major events; there are cafes, pubs and toilets in Stamford at the far point of the loop.
