Craig y Cilau and Llangattock Escarpment

Craig y Cilau is a National Nature Reserve perched on the Llangattock Escarpment, a long limestone scarp above the Usk Valley with old quarry tramways, hidden caves and rare whitebeam woodland. This dog friendly walk follows the high path along the cliff top with panoramic views of the Black Mountains and Crickhowell, with the option to extend into the glacial hanging valley of Cwm Onneu Fach.

The walk is mostly on grassy paths and old tramway lines, with no stiles, which makes it an easy walk with a dog as long as they are kept on the lead near the cliff edges and around the sheep that graze the escarpment year round. The terrain can be uneven and muddy in places and there are steep drops to be aware of. There are no facilities on the route, but Crickhowell is a short drive away with dog friendly pubs and cafes. Parking is at the small free car park on the lane above Llangattock village.
