For much of the route, yes — the broad open mountain ridge gives plenty of scope for dogs to roam off lead. That said, sheep and occasional wild ponies do graze the slopes, so you'll need to keep a close eye on your dog and be ready to put them back on the lead when livestock are nearby.

This is a big, exposed mountain day covering four summits, so come prepared — the high ridge catches the weather and the descent path can be boggy underfoot. There are no facilities anywhere on the walk, so carry plenty of water for both you and your dog. The free car park at Lower Neuadd Reservoir is small (around 20 spaces) and fills quickly at weekends, so an early start is a good idea. After the walk, dog friendly pubs can be found in nearby Pontsticill and Talybont on Usk.
