Three Cliffs Bay Circular, Gower
Swansea
Three Cliffs Bay is the picture postcard image of Gower, a curving sandy beach with a meandering tidal stream and the distinctive triple-pointed limestone arch that gives the bay its name. This dog friendly circular walk from Penmaen takes in the ruins of Pennard Castle, Pennard Burrows sand dunes and the salt marsh, with a long loop along the Gower Coast Path back to the car park.
The terrain is varied with woodland paths, sandy dune sections, a stream crossing (boots off if the tide is in) and easy clifftop walking. Dogs should be on a lead through the farmland and sheep fields at the start and end of the route, but can run free on Three Cliffs Bay beach which allows dogs year round. Watch for cattle in the salt marsh in summer. Parking is at the National Trust car park at Penmaen, with the Gower Heritage Centre and several dog friendly pubs nearby.
