Barmouth to Fairbourne Ferry Circuit
Gwynedd
The Mawddach Estuary is one of the most beautiful in Wales, a wide silver tidal river with the mountains of the Cadair Idris range rising directly behind. This dog friendly circular walk uses the famous Barmouth Bridge wooden toll viaduct (or the seasonal foot ferry) to link the seaside town of Barmouth with the long sandy beach at Fairbourne, returning along the Mawddach Trail or the bridge.
The terrain is mostly flat tarmac, beach sand and a wooden bridge, ideal for dogs of all ages. Fairbourne and Barmouth both have year round dog friendly zones at either end of their beaches, with seasonal restrictions on the central beach sections (1 May to 30 September). The toll bridge has a small charge per dog and the ferry takes dogs at the skipper's discretion. Both towns have multiple dog friendly cafes and the Mawddach Trail is a flat shared use path. Parking is pay and display on the seafront.
