Bridlington South Beach
East Yorkshire
Bridlington South Beach is the larger and busier of the town's two resort beaches, stretching south from the harbour past the Spa theatre complex along Princess Mary Promenade. The beach is wide and sandy, backed by a busy promenade, and is the heart of Bridlington's traditional seaside identity. The Spa complex hosts live entertainment throughout the season. The beach has a full range of resort amenities including amusements, donkey rides, cafes, fish and chip shops and fairground attractions. Bridlington is one of the most visited seaside destinations in Yorkshire and South Beach is its commercial hub.
A seasonal dog ban applies to Bridlington South Beach from 1 May to 30 September under the East Riding PSPO, covering the section between the southern face of the South Pier and the eastern face of Princess Mary Promenade Sea Wall. Dogs and leads are required on the adjacent promenade during the ban period. Outside the ban period the full beach is accessible to dogs. Fraisthorpe Beach to the south has no restrictions at all and is a much quieter dog friendly alternative.

Frequently Asked Questions
Bridlington South Beach is only partially dog friendly, which is reflected in its 4/10 rating. A seasonal ban under the East Riding PSPO prohibits dogs from the beach between 1 May and 30 September, covering the section between the southern face of the South Pier and the eastern face of Princess Mary Promenade Sea Wall. If you're visiting out of season, the full beach is open to dogs, but during summer months you'll need to look elsewhere — Fraisthorpe Beach to the south is a much quieter, restriction-free alternative worth considering.
No — dogs are banned from the beach itself between 1 May and 30 September each year under the East Riding PSPO. During this period, dogs are permitted on the adjacent promenade but must be kept on leads. Outside of those dates, from 1 October through to 30 April, the full beach is accessible to dogs.
The most important thing to be aware of is the seasonal dog ban, which runs from 1 May to 30 September and covers the main stretch of beach between South Pier and Princess Mary Promenade Sea Wall — leads are required on the promenade during this time too. South Beach is also a busy, commercial resort beach with amusements, donkey rides, and large crowds in season, so it may not suit dogs who find bustle stressful. If you want a more relaxed experience, Fraisthorpe Beach to the south has no restrictions at all and is widely regarded as the better dog-friendly option in the area.
