Broadstairs Stone Bay
Kent
Stone Bay is a quieter, more sheltered sandy beach just north of Broadstairs town centre, enclosed by white chalk cliffs that provide protection from the wind and a striking natural backdrop. The bay is a favourite with locals and tends to be less crowded than Viking Bay, with a row of pretty beach huts along the promenade at the base of the cliffs. The beach has consistently clean water and has received Seaside Award status. At low tide, the sand extends and rock pools emerge at the edges of the bay, providing good conditions for exploration.
Dogs are not permitted on Stone Bay between 10am and 6pm from 1 May to 30 September, but are allowed outside these hours. This makes Stone Bay more accessible for dog owners than some of the nearby Thanet beaches where dogs are banned entirely during summer. The sheltered, enclosed nature of the bay makes it a pleasant spot for dogs that find exposed, windy beaches difficult, and the rock pools provide good territory to investigate at low tide. A seasonal cafe sits at the top of the access path, and Broadstairs town centre is a short walk away.

Frequently Asked Questions
Stone Bay is a good choice for dog owners, earning a solid 8/10 on our dog-friendly rating. Dogs are welcome outside of the summer daytime restrictions, and the sheltered, enclosed bay between the chalk cliffs makes it a particularly pleasant spot for dogs that struggle with more exposed, windswept beaches. The rock pools at low tide are an added bonus for curious noses.
Dogs are welcome at Stone Bay throughout the year, but with a seasonal restriction in place from 1 May to 30 September, when they are not permitted on the beach between 10am and 6pm. Outside of those hours , early mornings and evenings in summer , dogs are allowed, and there are no restrictions at all during the rest of the year. Compared to some nearby Thanet beaches where dogs are banned entirely during summer, Stone Bay is relatively accessible for dog owners.
If you're visiting between May and September, plan to arrive before 10am or after 6pm to stay within the rules. Parking is limited on Stone Road nearby, so it's worth knowing that Broadstairs town car parks are a short walk away if the street parking is full. There's a seasonal cafe at the top of the access path, and the town centre is close by if you need any other supplies , handy for a post-walk coffee while your dog dries off.
