Broadstairs Viking Bay
Kent
Viking Bay is the main beach in Broadstairs, a horseshoe-shaped crescent of golden sand wrapped around a small harbour in one of Kent's most charming seaside towns. The bay is overlooked by Bleak House, where Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield, and the harbour with its fishing boats and the York Gate archway on Harbour Street give the town its distinctive, old-fashioned English seaside character. The beach has excellent facilities including a cliff-top lift, deck chair hire, and seasonal lifeguard cover, and the town's cafes, restaurants, and shops are immediately behind.
Dogs are not permitted on Viking Bay at any time between 1 May and 30 September. Outside the restriction period the compact sandy bay provides pleasant walking, though it can still be busy given Broadstairs' year-round popularity. Dog owners visiting during summer should head to nearby Dumpton Gap or Kingsgate Bay, both of which allow dogs all year. The town itself is highly walkable with the beach as its focal point, and parking is available in town car parks within a short walk.

Frequently Asked Questions
Viking Bay earns a solid 8/10 for dog friendliness, but with an important caveat: dogs are not permitted on the beach between 1 May and 30 September. Outside those months, you and your dog are welcome to enjoy the golden sand and harbour setting, and the town itself is highly walkable year-round.
Unfortunately not , dogs are banned from Viking Bay during the summer season, from 1 May to 30 September. If you're visiting in summer, nearby Dumpton Gap and Kingsgate Bay both welcome dogs all year and make good alternatives.
The key thing to be aware of is the seasonal dog ban from 1 May to 30 September, so Viking Bay is best suited to visits in the autumn, winter, or early spring. Even outside the restriction period, the beach can be busy given Broadstairs' year-round appeal, so early mornings tend to be quieter. Parking is available in pay-and-display town centre car parks a short walk from the beach, and the town has plenty of cafes and facilities once you're done on the sand.
