Bude Summerleaze Beach
Cornwall
Bude Summerleaze Beach is the main town beach of Bude, a broad, sandy Atlantic-facing beach with a unique and beloved feature: a large tidal seawater swimming pool built into the rock at the northern end, fed naturally by the sea. The beach is wide and open with consistent surf, backed by the Bude Canal and the town itself. It is the most accessible and well-served beach in the Bude area, with good parking and a full range of facilities. The unique combination of surf beach and tidal pool gives it a distinctive character.
Dogs face a PSPO seasonal restriction on Summerleaze during summer months, with the main beach sections restricted during peak season. However, outside these restrictions and in the considerable off-season period, this is an excellent dog friendly beach with serious space and good surf. The tidal pool can be accessed by dogs outside the restricted season, providing safe, calm swimming. Bude is a notably dog-friendly town with a wide range of welcoming cafes and pubs, and the canal towpath provides an excellent all-season dog walking route adjacent to the beach. Outside July and August, Summerleaze is one of the better all-round beach experiences on the north Cornish coast.
