Cadgwith Cove
Cornwall
Cadgwith Cove is a working fishing cove on the eastern Lizard Peninsula, one of the last genuinely active fishing villages on the Cornish coast. The beach is formed of two small shingle coves divided by The Todden headland, with traditional fishing boats drawn up above the tide line and lobster pots stacked against the thatched and slate-roofed cottages. The sense of authentic Cornish fishing village character is overwhelming and very little appears to have changed in the past century. It is reached via a steep, narrow lane from the village above.
Dogs are welcome in Cadgwith Cove year-round with no PSPO restrictions, and the village has a practical, no-nonsense attitude to dogs that reflects its working character. The shingle beach is coarser underfoot than sand but provides excellent grip for dogs exploring the shoreline. The Cadgwith Cove Inn on the clifftop is one of the most dog-friendly pubs in Cornwall, with outdoor seating and a genuinely warm welcome for dogs. The South West Coast Path passes through and connects to Kennack Sands to the north and Lizard Point to the south. The sense of being somewhere real and unspun makes this a deeply satisfying visit for owners and dogs alike.

Frequently Asked Questions
Cadgwith Cove is a great choice for dog owners, earning a solid 8/10 for dog friendliness. Dogs are welcome on the shingle beach and the village has a practical, unstuffy attitude towards them that suits its working fishing character. The Cadgwith Cove Inn on the clifftop is also considered one of the most dog-friendly pubs in Cornwall, so there's a warm welcome waiting after your walk.
Yes, dogs are welcome at Cadgwith Cove throughout the year with no seasonal restrictions or PSPO limitations in place. This makes it a reliable option whatever time of year you're visiting the Lizard Peninsula.
Parking is limited in the village above the cove (TR12 7PH), and the walk down to the beach is steep and via a narrow lane, so arriving early in summer is a good idea. The beach itself is shingle rather than sand, which is actually helpful for dogs as it provides good grip underfoot. There are no public toilets at the cove, but the Cadgwith Cove Inn and a small village shop are on hand for refreshments.
