Caerhays Beach

Caerhays Beach sits at the foot of the Caerhays Castle estate on the Roseland Peninsula, a beautifully positioned sandy cove backed by woodland and sheltered by low headlands on either side. The castle, a Gothic Revival mansion, is visible from the beach and gives the whole location an unusually romantic, estate-like quality. The sand is fine and the beach has a gentle aspect, facing south and protected from the prevailing wind by the surrounding hills.

Dogs are welcome here year-round with no PSPO restrictions, making this dog friendly beach a solid choice across all seasons. The sheltered position means conditions are typically calm even when the rest of the coast is rough, and the surrounding woodland edges add scent interest for dogs exploring the beach margins. Access is via a lane through the estate, and the beach is managed by the Caerhays Estate which keeps the whole area in excellent condition. Tidal range is moderate and the beach is best at mid to low tide for maximum sand. There are no facilities at the beach itself, but the quiet character of the estate means the atmosphere is consistently peaceful.
