Carne Beach
Cornwall
Carne Beach is a long, low-key sandy beach on the Roseland Peninsula, situated at the southern end of Gerrans Bay. The beach stretches for a considerable distance at low tide, with firm, pale sand and clear water making it one of the more underrated beaches on this part of the Cornish coast. The approach from Carne village is via a lane that leads down to a small car park above the beach. The Gerrans Bay view is wide and open, with the bulk of the Roseland Peninsula visible to the north.
This is an excellent dog friendly beach with no PSPO seasonal restrictions, making it a dependable year-round destination. The long flat stretch of sand gives dogs genuine space to run at low tide, and the gently shelving beach makes paddling and swimming very accessible. The relative lack of facilities keeps visitor numbers manageable outside peak summer, and the beach feels uncrowded for its quality. Some of the neighbouring Pendower Beach visitors overflow here, but the two beaches together form a long unbroken stretch at low tide. The Driftwood Spars at Trevithick and other nearby Roseland pubs are dog-friendly options for post-beach refreshment.
