Druridge Bay

Druridge Bay stretches for over seven miles along the Northumberland coast, one of the longest unbroken sandy beaches in England. The bay is backed by dunes and a series of freshwater lakes — former opencast mine workings now reclaimed as nature reserves — creating a landscape where sea, sand, dune and freshwater wetland all sit within a few hundred metres. The scale is extraordinary: at low tide the sand extends hugely, and even on the busiest summer days the beach absorbs visitors without ever feeling crowded. The flat, open coastline gives big skies and long views in every direction.

Dogs are welcome off-lead year-round on this dog friendly beach, making Druridge one of the most reliable and spacious options anywhere on the English coast. The firm sand at low tide provides outstanding running terrain — dogs can sprint for miles here without restriction. The dune system offers contrasting exploration with sheltered hollows, marram grass and rabbit scent, and the freshwater lakes behind the dunes add yet another dimension for dogs who enjoy water. The beach works well in all conditions — the sheer scale means you can always find a sheltered stretch. Parking is available at several access points along the bay.
