Kennack Sands

Kennack Sands is a double-bay beach on the eastern side of the Lizard Peninsula, formed by two sandy coves separated by a rocky headland known as The Caerverracks. The beach sits within the Lizard National Nature Reserve and has a wonderfully remote, unhurried character. The two bays are different in mood: the western bay is broader and more open, while the eastern bay is smaller and more sheltered. The surrounding landscape of heath, cliff and farmland is some of the most ecologically rich in Britain.

This is one of the best dog friendly beaches on the Lizard, with year-round access and no PSPO restrictions. The double-bay layout effectively doubles the useful beach space, and the rocky headland between the coves provides excellent exploration terrain for dogs at low tide. The sand is firm and the water clean and clear, typical of the Lizard's relatively pristine coastline. Dogs can run freely across both bays, and the nature reserve setting means the surrounding area is rich in scent from heathland vegetation and coastal flora. Facilities are modest, which suits the unhurried character of the place. A consistently underrated beach by Cornish standards.
