Llanbedrog Beach

Gwynedd

Dog Friendly Rating:7/10A long, well-managed sandy beach on the south coast with a colourful beach hut row, National Trust facilities and a rewarding headland walk to the Tin Man sculpture.

Llanbedrog Beach sits on the south coast of the Llyn Peninsula, a long sandy shore lined with colourful beach huts and looking out across Cardigan Bay. The beach is gently sloping with firm sand at low tide, and a distinctive woodland path leads from the beach up to the Tin Man sculpture on the headland — a striking piece of public art with panoramic views over the bay that elevates Llanbedrog beyond a flat beach walk. The National Trust car park above is large and well-managed, and the wooded headland adds a completely different dimension to the coastal experience.

Dogs on leads are required in the main beach hut area from 1 April to 30 September, but beyond the huts dogs can go off-lead on the sand — making the further stretches the best option on this dog friendly beach during summer. Outside the restricted season, good off-lead potential extends along the full length. The sand is pleasantly firm underfoot, and the tideline carries a warm, sheltered quality in calm weather that shifts to brisker saltwater sharpness when the wind comes across the bay. The headland walk through woodland provides engaging terrain for dogs, with tree-filtered light, leaf litter and the contrast of climbing above the beach. Low tide exposes wide flat sand ideal for running. The combination of beach, woodland and sculpture trail makes Llanbedrog feel like three walks in one.
