Millook Beach
Cornwall
Millook Beach is a tiny, remote cove on the north Cornish coast between Crackington Haven and Widemouth Bay, reached via an extremely narrow lane that descends steeply from the clifftop. The beach is a mix of shingle and sand with dramatic folded cliff strata on both sides that rival Crackington Haven for geological spectacle. The cove is very small and the descent deters most casual visitors, giving it an unusually pristine, undisturbed character. The stream that runs through the valley above adds to the sense of somewhere genuinely off the tourist map.
Dogs are welcome at Millook Beach year-round with no restrictions whatsoever, and the extreme remoteness of the location makes this effectively a private dog friendly beach on all but the busiest of summer weekends. The small scale suits dogs who prefer exploring over running, with the rock pools and shingle banks providing excellent terrain. The stream provides fresh water. The South West Coast Path runs above on both sides and the clifftop walking in this stretch is dramatic and demanding. There are no facilities of any kind, and parking at the bottom of the lane is extremely limited. This is a beach for those who want genuine solitude.
