Newgale Beach

Newgale Beach is a two-mile sweep of open sand on the Pembrokeshire coast, backed by a dramatic storm-built pebble bank and facing the full force of the Atlantic. This is a beach built for big walks — long, exposed, and exhilarating when the wind is up. On calmer days it softens into a wide, gentle shore with clear water and views south toward the headlands. The main road runs right along the back of the beach, making access straightforward, though the scale of the place means crowds quickly disperse.

Dogs are welcome year-round on this outstanding dog friendly beach, and the sheer length means there is always space to find a quiet stretch. The firm low-tide sand provides excellent running ground, and the surf zone offers exciting play for confident water dogs — though the Atlantic swell demands respect. The pebble bank at the top of the beach provides shelter from onshore winds, and the tideline is rich with kelp and driftwood for investigative noses.
