Porthtowan Beach

Porthtowan is a dog friendly beach, though it carries a moderate rating of 6/10 due to its extended seasonal restrictions. Outside of those restrictions, it's a fantastic spot , wide golden sand, firm ground near the water, and a village with dog friendly options including the well-known Blue Bar.

Dogs are welcome year round, but there is a seasonal restriction in place from 15 May to 30 September, during which dogs are not permitted on the beach between 10am and 6pm. This window is wider than most Cornish beaches due to Porthtowan's Blue Flag status, which makes it best suited to autumn-to-spring visits for dog walkers.

The key thing to plan around is the seasonal restriction , no dogs on the beach between 10am and 6pm from 15 May to 30 September, so early mornings or evenings are your best bet in summer. Outside that period, dogs have free run of the beach, and the facilities are good: there are showers near the beach access for a post-walk rinse, dog waste bins on site, and a pay-and-display car park above the beach. The clifftop paths around the bay are also well worth exploring with your dog.
